SacAnime is proud to offer our attendees live panels and workshops on a variety of topics hosted by knowledgeable experts, our talented guests, and industry professionals.

FRIDAY PANELS

Voice Acting Q&A
Main Events – 1:00PM – 1:55PM
Come join Ali Hillis, Liam O’Brian, and Rebecca Forstadt as they talk about the excitement, hard work, and perils of being a Voice Actor.

Otaku: The Series
Main Events – 2:00PM – 2:55PM
Come join Anthony Williams as he showcases the first episode of the web series Otaku. Otaku revolves around a dysfunctional college anime club, following Coco, the new anime club president, who faces a bit of opposition from current members. After the episode there will be a Q&A. If time allows, there will be a video interview with Goldie Chan and James Chen, the director of the episode shown.

Visual Novels: A Study on a Cultural Phenomenon and its Western Audience
Main Events – 4:30PM – 5:25PM
The seminar will cover basic information and knowledge concerning Visual Novels—a Japanese art form that is not often seen in Western culture. It will have visual aids, sound and video, and a novel engine comparison.

Steve will be talking with fans about current and upcoming projects.

Ink on the Screen: How to Draw Webcomics/Doujin
Main Events – 6:25PM – 7:25PM
Introduction to web comics, both original and fanmade. Come in to learn the basics, and if you’re a little more expereinced, some cool tips and tricks. Also learn about sites to publish on or market. Discover the world of doujin outside of the… “mature” side and what “doujin” really means.

Anime Girl Fight!
Main Events – 7:30PM – 8:55PM
Instead of spending time hanging out with actual girls, would you rather waste a nerdy hour arguing about which anime girls would win in a fight? Then Harmony Gold’s Steve Yun has the event for you, as a team of expert panelists argue and vote over this very important topic! Heckling encouraged.

SATURDAY PANELS

Lolita Fashion 101
Main Events – 10:00AM – 11:00AM
An introduction and brief history of this beautiful Japanese fashion phenomenon, examining it from both an aesthetic point of view, and as a societal outlet.

Giant Robot Rumble
Main Events – 12:00PM – 12:25PM
Remember when you were in elementary school and you argued with your friends about whether Voltron or Optimus Prime would win in a fight? Well, prepare for the ultimate in nerdy panels: Harmony Gold’s Steve Yun hosts a tournament where panelists and attendees argue and vote over which robots would win in a fight. Sixteen robots will enter the arena, but only one will emerge as the victor!

How to Successfully Pitch an Animated Cartoon
Main Events – 2:00PM – 2:55PM
Join Mike for this step-by-step presentation on the entire process of creating, pitching, selling, and producing an animated short. Focus will be on the development of his character Thom Cat from a comic book to storyboard pitch to successfully produced animated short for the Random Cartoons show on Nicktoons. Also covering the development process of the short The Infinite Goliath (co-created with Erik Knutson) also for Nicktoons, including a screening of both animated shorts, and followed by an Q&A session.

Meet Minmei

Come join Mari Iijima and Rebecca Forstadt as they talk about their role as Minmei as well as other current and future projects.

Robotech: Past, Present & Future
Main Events – 4:00PM – 4:55PM
Join Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles writer Steve Yun as he covers the first quarter century of the animated series that introduced a generation to anime, and discusses upcoming new releases in the wake of the announcement of the live action feature film. We will also remember Carl Macek, the original producer of Robotech who started this whole phenomenon.

Spotlight on Local AMVs
Main Events – 5:00PM – 5:55PM
Scott Grasso will be talking about AMV editors who are local to California and Sacramento, and moderating a Q&A with them.

10 Years of Influential Anime Music Videos
Main Events – 2:30PM – 3:55PM
Scott Grasso been around a while and there’s a few videos out there that seem to have made a large impact on the AMV community. This panel will be a retrospective of older vs. newer AMVs and also a chance for people to ask questions and share their favorites.
